Web site searching
|
 |
 |
What are some tips when using keywords or phrases to search?
Use logical expressions to include and/or exclude text combinations. You may also use parentheses to group expressions. As in algebra, the expression inside the parentheses is resolved first. The logical operators you may use are listed below; they must be entered in uppercase.
If you enter multiple words and do not enter any logical operator, the search will treat the words as though the OR operator is entered.
|
 |
| Operator
| Search results |
| OR |
OR will find all documents that contain at least one of the words you enter. For example, NNM OR discovery will return documents that contain either NNM or discovery. |
| AND |
AND will find all documents that contain all the words you enter. For example, NNM AND discoverywill return all documents that contain both the words NNM and discovery. |
| NOT |
NOT will find all documents that contain the first word you enter but not the second word you enter. For example, NNM NOT discovery will return documents that contain NNM and do not contain discovery. |
| XOR |
XOR will find all documents containing one word or the other, but not both. |
| NEAR or NEARi |
NEAR will find all documents containing text that is within reasonable proximity of other text. Additionally, you may enter an integer (i) that will specify the maximum number of words that may occur between the first word and the second. For example, word1 NEAR word2 or word1 NEAR12 word2. |

How do I find an Exact Phrase?
Place double quotes around the text to find an exact phrase. For example: "match this exact text".
What are some examples of text searches? Review the table below:
| Search text
| Results |
| omniback AND database AND maintenance |
Retrieves documents that contain all three words: "omniback", "database", "maintenance" |
| nnm AND license NOT manuals |
Retrieves documents that contain both "nnm" and "license" and that do not contain "manuals" |
| windows AND (operations OR agent) |
Retrieves documents that contain "windows" and either "operations" or "agent" |
| database oracle |
Retrieves documents that contain either the word "database" or the word "oracle" (same results as if search text is "database OR oracle") |
| "polling interval" |
Retrieves documents that contain the exact phrase "polling interval". |
| polling NEAR10 interval |
Retrieves documents that contain the word "polling" and the word "interval" within 10 words of each other |

What does product and solution information searching offer?
It allows you to search on many different types of documents that provide information on different products and selected solutions. You can find this type of searching at: www.openview.hp.com/partner/isv/index.jsp.
How does the search page work?
Here is how this page works:
- You can select solutions types and specific products from the lists on the page.
- You can 'check' the types of information you might be interested in viewing (i.e. white papers, product briefs).
- You can 'click' on the information type label to see a pop-up window that describes that information type.
- You can enter keywords or phrases in the text area to narrow your searching.
- You may limit the search results based on the content of the document by entering keywords or phrases. The search text is not case sensitive, although any logical operators must be entered in uppercase.
What are some searching tips when using keywords or phrases?
You can review the searching tips found under the web site search help.
How do the results display?
The results will be returned grouped by information types you have chosen. You can click on the title of the document that is displayed in the result list to view that document (note you may need Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word, or Microsoft PowerPoint to view some of these files). Select the check box to the left of the document title to download those documents.
Some documents may not have check boxes next to them because you are not able to download these documents.
What is the document checkout and how does it work?
The document checkout is a location where you can store documents you want to download. It allows you to zip the files into one file for fast and efficient downloading. Documents stored in document checkout will only be available during your current browser session and will not be available after you close your browser.
You will need WinZip to open files that you download because they will be compressed in a .zip format.
